Biography of the Superstar!

Superstar Rajinikanth is the most-celebrated actor in Indian films. Not satisfied with chanting slogans and viewing his films countless times, a fan's regard and reverence for the actor has grown to a commendable expression; Dr.Gayathri has written Superstar Rajinikanth's biography. Gayathri has become a typical Rajni fan to compile all the interesting and inspiring incidents in the Superstar's life. For this, she has left her medical practice in the hands of her husband and rest of the family, all doctors by profession. Gayathri has travelled to Bangalore, Rajini's birthplace and has spoken to his close circle of friends, relatives and well-wishers to complie the data for this book.

This biography has captured the rise of the fervent young man Sivaji Rao and his ambitions. The biography charts his meteoric rise; it underlines the incidents and experiences the actor has gone through. From a bus conductor in a local shuttle service, the actor's ascent in stardom is a lesson for everyone. Still, as Gayathri points out, Rajni's family lives in Bangalore, leading a quiet simple life. Beyond the façade of the Superstar, he is also respected as a great man. Completely aware of the impression of his words and actions, Rajni has risen to the extent of becoming a representative of the common man, responsible and thoughtful.

Gayathri has met K. Balachander, Raini's guru and mentor and of course Kamal Haasan, who reigns as the other top contemporary star. It has taken almost a year for her to complete the book. Titled 'Rajini Pera Kettale' in Tamil and 'Raini is the name' in English, the book launch will be held in a grand function on March 6th, 2008. Several dignitaries from the worlds of literature and cinema are expected to grace the ocassion.

As loyalists to cinema and stars, we have come across so much information about Raini; yet Gayathri's book presents him as a man, mighty in terms of principles and conduct. For all movie-lovers, it is a treat in every sense.

Ringing Melodies!

Whenever we are in public gatherings, be it a hospital, an airport, a cinema theatre, a place of worship or a concert hall, there is never a quiet moment. Often, the public's ears and minds get distracted from the main programme by the unwelcome ring tones of cellphone. Downloading film music on mobile phones is a trendy practice catching up fast with the present generation. The old ringing sound has now given way to an interesting/ irritating, ever-changing mix of tunes, downloaded from latest Bollywood and Kollywood hits. In addition to snatches of filmy songs and instrumental bits, one also gets to hear popular punch-dialogues such as "Don ko pakhadna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin Hai," or "Pera Kettale chumma Adhirudille".

Mobile operators offer all the downloadable content such as ring tones, wallpapers, screen-savers and mobile games to customers as a marketing tactic. The South Indian Music Companies Association (SIMCA) acts as a channel between the content provider, mobile operator and the movie producer or audio company that holds the rights. Some popular Kollywood ring tone toppers are from Anniyan, Ghajini, Arindhum Ariyamalum, and Chandramukhi. The most recent additions to the popular list are songs from Bheemaa, Sivaji and Billa.

INBAA:

Inbaa is about reclaiming your lost life through love. Inbaa (Shaam), who is sent to a borstal (reformatory school for juvenile criminals) at a young age, is released and he decides to put his life back on track. He gets a job as a bartender but has to quit the job after a scuffle. Priya (Sneha) is a headstrong college girl whose brother Mala Ganesan (Arun Pandian) is a rowdy. Rupan (Aravind), a good-for-nothing in college, teases Priya who informs her brother who beats up Rupan. However, Rupan is out to get revenge. Fearing that Rupan might harm his sister, Ganesan appoints Inbaa as her bodyguard.

Initially, Priya insults Inbaa as she feels he is an intrusion in her privacy. But circumstances force her to see the goodness in Inbaa and predictably, she falls in love with him. But Inbaa ignores her. However, Mala Ganesan comes to know of Priya's love for Inbaa and decides to eliminate him so that Priya forgets Inbaa. But his move backfires; Inbaa gets to know and hence reciprocates the deep love that Priya has for him.

He opens his heart to Priya and tells her all about his past. In the flashback, we come to know that Inbaa was an excellent student. We also learn how his life was ruined by his classmate Jothi (Poornitha) for whom he had developed a crush. Do Inbaa and Priya get together? Does Mala Ganesan accept their love or does he die a violent death? Does Rupan take his revenge on Priya? These questions are answered in an engaging second half.

Shaam as Inbaa, with his brooding bearded look, has performed well. The actor has also improved upon his dialogue delivery, which was long considered his weak point. One wonders why directors offer this talented actor only lover boy roles. Sneha, as the initially headstrong and later the love-struck Priya, comes with a performance that is natural and appealing. Poornitha, who appears in the flashback, shows her potential in a negative role.
